Summary

Norwood Public School was situated on Beulah Road and was built in the Italian style of the adjoining church. The hall measured 48 feet by 32 feet and 19 feet high. The walls were fitted with desks on three sides to enable classes and lectures. The foundation stone was laid in 1870, it was opened 13th February 1871 with 85 children enrolled and by June the number had risen to 219. It was a unsectarian school for children of the poor.
