Summary

Captain George Bain Johnston was born in Scotland and sailed out to Melbourne in 1853. Later he joined the gold rush at Forest Creek. He moved to Goolwa and in 1857 purchased land in Little Scotland, Goolwa. He built Cockenzie House. He was regarded as one of the Murray's most successful navigators, a loyal, intelligent and enterprising colonist.
