Historical information

L. H. Howie was the Chief Assistant under H. P. Gill at the Adelaide School of Arts and Design,and after serving in World War 1 was appointed Principal in 1920; he was President of the Royal South Australian Society of Arts 1927-32 and 1935-37, he retired in 1941 and continued with painting and woodcraft, creating a number of pulpits for churches in Adelaide.
