Summary

Six happy women passengers photographed on the stationary horse tram #5 on Granite Island. The SAR closed the line in 1955, but the kiosk owner ran it using just car #5 for a further year, and dumped it off the rails near the picnic area, but became derelict and is believed to have been pushed into the sea. Sister tram #6 was 'preserved' at the 'Wagon Wheels Service Station' at Watervale, but was subsequently purchased by a museum in the USA, where it has been restored as a single deck tram (the general design being typically American although widely used in Australia, the UK etc. in both single and double deck versions) [information provided by a researcher].
