Summary

Postcard with the following caption on the back: 'Echuca wharf, c. 1880. By 1870 Echuca had become the most important river port on the Murray. Wool was brought down the NSW river system to the railhead at Echuca, then on to Melbourne for the clipper fleet to Europe. An unique wharf enabled boats to be handled at almost any river height and in busy seasons the port often worked day and night. photographer unknown'. This photo is part of the Sheahan Collection which consists of 114 views depicting river craft and two steam boat captains, bridges, and locks on the Murray River in South Australia.
