Historical information

Maude Wordsworth James was well known in Adelaide for her collection of a 'thousand signatures' written by the many interesting people that she encountered during her life, ranging from royalty to gold miners, some of the well-known signatures were embroidered in an autograph 'Cloth of Memory'; she also gave many public recitals of her own compositions as part of her war work during World War 1, her programme often included a popular song called 'Cooee' which she had written and dedicated to Australian soldiers.
