Historical information

Michael's father John, was the first white settler on the west side of Port Augusta, he worked as the pilot guiding shipping into the wharf and ran a ferry across the gulf before the bridge was built. Michael used a bicycle or walked to deliver telegrams and had many adventures, including an encounter with a wild camel which stopped him on a journey from an outlying station and would not allow him to continue until dusk.
