General notes

George Brookman married Eliza Martha Marshall in 1878. [The date of this photograph must be before 1905 as May Brookman was married in 1902; she was born in 1879. Norman who is also in the picture was born in 1884. In the photograph he looks to be about 10 years old. It possibly could have been taken in the Brookman home on Edwin Terrace, Gilberton. Ada Crossley later became a noted contralto singer. Information from Ms Jenny Neill.] Further information from a researcher : In March 1894 Ada left for London where she studied first with (Sir) Charles Santley and then for some seven months in Paris with Madame Marchesi. Her London début was at the Queen's Hall in May 1895, hence, the photo must have been taken before March 1894.
