Summary

The original Alice Springs Hospital at the time of opening in 1926. The hospital was designed and built by John Flynn, as part of the Australian Inland Mission, patients having previously been taken to Oodnadatta. Constructed between 1920 and 1926, it featured 45cm thick walls, and with a cooling system using air tunnels and wet hessian. It was replaced by a different building with the opening of the current Alice Springs Hospital in 1939, and is currently known as Adelaide House.
