Summary

Water colour sketch of the once well known York Hotel, located on Rundle Street and south east corner of Pulteney Street, depicting Adelaide Hills in the background. Artwork is attributed to J.M. Skipper. Note on the back of the photograph states ' the original sketch is marked York Hotel, 1842 but as the hotel was not licensed until 1849 the signboard 'The York' must have been added to the sketch some years later if the date 1842 is to stand. The building is earlier in appearance than that shown in B 2024 which bears the date 1850. It is thought that the original sketch was made in the 40's when the building was a boarding house kept by the Misses Bathgate'.
