Historical information

Reginald Harper Reid (1886-1918) was the third son of Malcolm Donald Reid and Elizabeth Eleanor Reid (nee Purches) of Adelaide. Educated at Prince Alfred College, Reginald later left with his parents to reside in Johannesburg, South Africa, for several years. He was a noted South Australian tennis player in the Australia, and played in several interstate matches, including Championships and the Australian Open. He also accompanied the team to England and the Continent. He was also a member of the Glenelg Golf Club. Following the outbreak of WWI, Reginald went to England and joined an English regiment, along with his many friends in Adelaide, and bacame a Captain in the Royal Field Artillery, 153rd Brigade. After three years of active service, Reginald was killed in action at Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France, at the age of 32, just under two months before the Armistice. He had been on leave and only recently returned to the front after having spent a brief leave in London. Reginald is buried in Mont Noir Military Cemetery, France.
