Summary

[General description] This steam driven battery is for the crushing of ore to extract gold. The corrugated iron building, nestled in amongst scrub, has soot around its chimney. A pile of firewood is stacked nearby. [On back of photograph] 'Virginia Battery, Stapleton, Northern Territory / In the eighteen seventies'.
