General notes

The eighty-second of 229 photographs in an album.

Historical information

The building is River View House in the township of Buchan, Victoria, famous for its caves. Joseph Wyatt owned River View House at that time. The building to the left (part shown) is the Buchan Mechanics Hall. Both buildings still exist although much changed. River View House was a guest house as well as the Post and telegraph office at the time the photograph was taken. It had a colonial wine licence. When first built back in ca. 1880s it was a hotel called the Buchan Inn. Today it is the Caves Hotel.
