Summary

Pencil sketch 3 of Providence Hill, Escape Creek, looking S.S.E. to S. by W. over a landscape. Two male figures seated on a flat rock in the foreground, which spans out to a wide vista beyond, including various flora as well as undulating hills on the horizon. The figures appear to be examining, recording and drawing floral specimens from the immediate area. Both figures are similarly dressed yet are wearing notably different hats. The figure on the left wears a military styled piece, yet his partner appears to be wearing either a large, panelled beret, or perhaps an eastern styled, cane sunhat. Both men are pictured with weapons of sheathed hand guns. The men have also equipped themselves with duffle bags, perhaps to carry their drawing equipment. One can assume this is a typical scene from McKinley's Exploring Expedition.

General notes

Edmunds was second in command of the McKinley Expedition, which was stopped from 14th February to 29the March, due to flooding.

Withdrawn for assessment for exhibition by the Museum & Art Gallery of the Northern Territory exhibition 'The Sound of the Sky' March-July 2005.
