Summary

Raking up grain. According to a researcher, this is not a scene of hand-threshing grain as first thought. 'Certainly, there is a fair bit of hand-work, but there is not the use of the flail as in traditional hand-threshing. It is a photo of a threshing floor on which lies the threshing roller which, when pulled around the floor by horses (usually), threshed the crop. The man at the rear is forking the crop to be threshed onto the floor or forking away the stalks from the grain lying on the floor after threshing.'
