Summary

Photograph taken in Victoria Square looking towards the Government Offices on the eastern side of the square. There are horse drawn trams outside the building. The first tram is numbered 108 and labelled Hill Street and the second is number 23, North Adelaide and displays an advertisement for D. M. Mackintosh & Co. Fashionable Tailors. The third tram is number 13, Walkerville.

General notes

It is believed that Moody & Heairfield included this photograph as part of an album compiled from photographs of early Adelaide by other photographers, and therefore are not the photographers as previously suggested.

Historical information

The Government offices on the corner of Victoria Square and Wakefield Street covered the entire Town Acre 303 and were designed by Melbourne architect Michael Egan. The building was occupied by December 1881. It is now known as the Torrens Building.
