Summary

[General description] This solid two storey bank building in the post-war neoclassical style has replaced its earlier modest building whilst retaining two of the existing shops by incorporating them into its design;Lilydale's (on the right), now with a verandah, and another similar shop (with the sale sign) on the left. Note the pillar box on the left side of the corner. [On back of photograph] 'Acre 404 / Savings Bank, Gouger Street branch / May 3rd 1928 / West corner of Compton Street / The Bank was erected in 1926/7 / For view of the shops formerly on the site see B 3268 / Measurements: Gouger Street frontage: 20 yards / Compton Street frontage: 20 yards'.
