Summary

[General description] Built in 1852, this lighthouse was the first in South Australia. It was constructed from granite and limestone quarried from nearby. In this view a group of people, probably the lighthouse keeper and family, pose by the paling fence partially surrounding the cottages. These cottages are replacements for the 1852 originals which were sited some distance away from the lighthouse, making access to the light difficult in bad weather.
