Summary

Originally believed to be a studio view of William & Anne Richards, the first settlers at Point Pass which was named by Anne after her home town: Poyntzpass, County Armagh, Ireland. A descendent has provided the following information: 'The photo currently listed in the library, B 46693 is incorrect and is actually a photo of Anne's son, William and his wife Elizabeth Anne (nee Lehmann). Anne Redpath was born in 1835 in Tandragee, County Armagh, Northern Ireland. Together with her two sisters she sailed to South Australia on the ship Nugget, leaving Liverpool on 1st (4th) April 1854, arriving at Port Misery, SA on 3rd July 1854. There were over 100 single women on board and the ship was known as a Bride Ship (one of a number that sailed) as there was a shortage of women in the colony. Anne married William Richards in 1856. They were the first agricultural settlers at Point Pass - named by Anne after her birthplace Poyntzpass, Northern Ireland. Anne and William raised seven healthy children and they both passed away in 1880.'
