Historical information

Born near Burra, South Australia, 8 October 1890, Walter enlisted on 11 September 1914 and served with 1st Australian Depot Unit of Supply at Gallipoli. He transferred to the 1st Pioneer Battalion March 1916, serving in France and promoted to Sergeant in August 1917. Walter returned to Australia and was discharged on 31 January 1919 following 4 years and 143 days service.
