Historical information

Service number 473, George Arnold, C Squadron, 11th Light Horse. Born South Australia, Arnold, a Gardener, enlisted at Oaklands on 7 December 1914. He was taken on strength of the 9th Light Horse at ANZAC on 29 August 1915, returning to the 11th Light Horse 22 February 1916. He served in the Middle East before taking leave in 1919 to gain nursery experience with Frederick Arnold in Leeds, England. On 22 September 1919 he married Frederick Arnold's daughter, Edith. Corporal George Arnold and Edith returned to South Australia in December 1919 and had three children, Bob, Ray and Kathleen. George died on 24 July 1965 and is buried in the A.I.F. Cemetery, West Terrace.
