Historical information

Service number 940, Robert Shakel Edwards was born at Copperhouse near Burra, South Australia, on 7 December 1896. He enlisted at Oaklands, South Australia, on 28 November 1914 and served with the 3rd Light Horse Regiment. From August 1917 to October 1917 Robert was employed on railway construction at Deir al-Belah south of Gaza. He returned to Australia in 1919 and re-enlisted during the Second World War. Robert died at Kilburn, South Australia, on 10 November 1965.
