Historical information

Arthur and Mary Tyson with their three sons at the time of Claude William Tyson's enlistment in the 1st Australian Imperial Force. At the time of Arthur's death in May 1930 the News reported, "During more than 40 years as a letter carrier it is estimated that 250,000 miles were walked by Mr. Arthur Cooper Tyson, of Dulwich, who died suddenly while on duty. He was a familiar figure in the suburbs of St. Peters, College Park, and Hackney, where his courtesy made him popular with householders." News 28 May 1930 page 3.

Service number 11114 Driver Claude William Tyson was born at Norwood, South Australia, on 22 September 1896. He enlisted in the 1st Australian Imperial Force on 24 September 1915 and served with the 3rd Division Train in France. He returned to Australia in 1919.
