Summary

[General description] This head and shoulders portrait shows Sir William Mitchell in three quarter view, silhouetted against a dark background. He is clean-shaven and wears a jacket and waistcoat with a collar and tie. Scholar, philosopher, educationist and administrator he was the Vice Chancellor of Adelaide University from 1916-1942 when he became Chancellor and served in that position until 1948. He was appointed KCMG in January 1927. [On back of photograph] 'Sir William Mitchell / Vice Chancellor of the University of Adelaide'.
