Summary

Scandinavian sailing ship "L'Avenir" at Port Germein on her last trip to Australia as a wheat ship. The only sailing ship to come to Port Germein with a woman crew member. The famous Australian pianist and composer Percy Grainger and his wife Ella sailed on this ship in 1933 from Europe to Australia, and there are some superb pictures of him climbing the rigging. It was lost with all hands off Cape Horn in 1938. A researcher has added that the ship was originally a Belgian sail training ship which later became part of Erickson's fleet and was re-named "Admiral Karpfanger".
