Historical information

Information from a researcher: 'Henry married Susan Dellow whose father was Luke Dellow. Luke married Margaret Ford. Luke had a sister Emma Dellow who married John Brown. Luke Dellow arrived on the 'La Belle Alliance' in 1847. He married Margaret Ford on 28 November 1853 and had 14 children. Susan was born 20 December 1863, Gawler River. The Tassie's arrived 5 June 1854 on the 'El Dorado'. They had 8 children. Henry was born 8 June 1863, Adelaide, to Robert Stewart Tassie and Janet McLean Gemmel. Susan and Henry married on the 13 October 1885 at Balaklava. They had 8 children, 2 in Balaklava, with the rest in Adelaide. Eldest son Arthur Cecil Kia fought in WW1. Henry went to the Pulteney Street School (now Pulteney Grammar School), and gained a scholarship to St Peters College. He then went to work as an accountant for Messrs W & J Storrie, an Adelaide firm at Balaklava, the largest storekeeping firm in the country. He was also an auditor for Balaklava Council. He returned to Adelaide 1894-1895 and worked for a number of accountants. Henry later started his own business named 'Tassie, McKee & Tassie'. He was elected for Legislative Council in 1918, and served there until 1938. Henry's was interested in Church matters, Lay Preacher, and was a Member of the Caledonian Society. The family lived at 48 Partidge Street, Glenelg. Henry died 26 October 1945, Susan on 18 May 1945.
