Summary

[General description] Some boys are admiring the new statue of Queen Victoria, situated in Victoria Square. She is depicted in a riding habit, wearing a crown and holding an orb and sceptre. The statue was presented to the City of Adelaide by Sir E.T. Smith, K.C.M.G. who, when travelling in England in 1893, selected it from the studio of Mr. Charles Bell Birch. It was cast at the Thames Ditton foundry under supervision of the sculptor. The statue stands on a pedestal of South Australia granite and was unveiled on the 11th August, 1894. [On back of photograph] 'Queen Victoria Statue, Victoria Square / c. 1894'.
