General notes

The house was built in 1857 by John Whyte, a grocer, pastoralist and uncle of Miss Bakewell who acquired the property when Whyte died childless in 1902. She continued to live in St Serf's until her death in 1939. It was demolished in 1940. A separate block contained a billiard room, kitchen and coach house. Outside steps led to a look-out on top of the coach house.
