Summary

Tram at Albert Street Terminus, corner of High Street, Mitcham. A researcher has provided the following information: The Mitcham tram line was opened on 2 July 1911. The tram is painted in the colour scheme and gold leaf lining style with which it was built in 1909. Cars were repainted in different schemes about 1915, and destination number boxes were installed in 1917 in place of coloured symbol destination names. The tram in the picture appears to have varnished window frames. Trams built after 1911 or overhauled after 1911 had painted window frames due to difficulty in maintaining varnsihed wood finish.
