Summary

Queensland motor-boat, Century Tire, owned and piloted by Mr. John McGinnis Williams, racing at Osborne on 23 February 1924. The Register newspaper reported "The Queensland Century Tire, on Saturday afternoon, showed outstanding superiority by winning the two heats of the motor boat chamionship of Australia at Osborne on the Port River. She attained a maximum speed of 55.39 miles an hour." As a result the Griffiths Cup that had been held by South Australia since 1916 went to Queensland. The crowd paid 2 shillings for standing room.
