Summary

Lithograph made by Penman and Co., of the 'Adelaide of Congregational Chapel and School, Kensington, near Adelaide, South Australia'. According to a researcher, this image would appear to be a lithograph from the sketch by S.T. Gill noted in the South Australian Register, 22nd September 1849, as 'about to be lithographed' as a fund-raiser for the chapel. The lithographed image can be dated 1849. Artwork inscribed on verso; 'at one time known as Cheethams', 'The Clayton Church was divided off from here', 'The church in the foreground was situated on the corner of Maesbury Street and High Street Kensington, next to an old cemetery which was still in existence in 1926, though the building at the rear had disappeared'.
