Historical information

Montague Fetherstonhaugh's father was Reverend John Fetherstonhaugh and Sir Montague Chapman's mother was Margaret Fetherstonhaugh, therefore the two Montague's were cousins. He took out a special survey in 1852 but was lost at sea with Sir Montague Chapman and Captain Kirsopp in May 1852, in a vessel sailing between Adelaide and Sydney. He was one of the founders of Saint Peter's College. He is referred to in the South Australian Register newspaper January 20 1849 as an applicant for shares in a Company promoted for the construction of a railway between Adelaide and the Port.
