Summary

[General description] This is a head and shoulders portrait of Eliza Harcus, in three quarter view. She is wearing a white lace front and cap and matching lace detail on her dress. Born Eliza Oliver, she married William Harcus, Congregational Minister, in Newport, England, in 1848. They emmigrated to Australia and arrived in Adelaide in the early 1860s. Widowed for many years she died in March 1902. [On back of photograph] 'Mrs E. Harcus / 1901 / Mrs. Harcus, and later her daughter, Mrs. Kelsey, was principal of a fashionable ladies' school in Adelaide'.
