Summary

[General description] People pose for the photographer under the verandah of this two storey stone building. A horse and cart stands in front of the store. See B 19739 for an earlier view before the addition of the verandah. William Allen Crouch arrived in South Australia on the'Templar' in 1845 and became a pastoralist. He arrived in Mount Gambier in 1849 and in 1852 he took over H. Crouch's store which he ran until he sold the business in 1870. [On back of photograph] 'Sect. 1103, Allots. 47/48 / Crouch's store, later Convent / Commercial Street, Mt. Gambier / The first two storey building in Mount Gambier / See Mt.
