Historical information

Information from a researcher: 'Nappamerrie station name is derived from the waterhole beside it where a large sandhill abuts. In Yandruwandha language it is NGAPA-WATER and MIRI-SANDHILL. Charles Sturt referred to this site in his 1845 journal, and later explorers Howitt and others also referred to it by Sturt's map. Charles Sturt's party caught a large number of fish in the waterhole and christened it 'THE FISHPOND' which Alfred Howitt also referred to it, and it never runs dry. The Wangkumara people some 95km to the east call water-ngaka and sandhill-kukidhi'.
