Summary

[General description] Overway bridge after erection in 1925. The bridge allows Henley Beach Road to cross over Railway Terrace at Mile End. In the photograph a car is travelling north under the bridge and pedestrians are watching from the parapet of the bridge. [On back of photograph] Bakewell Bridge. Overway bridge at Mile End. Erected in 1925. Looking north. Reproduced in Observer, Dec. 19, 1925. (The erection of the bridge removed the former risk of accidents due to a level crossing and materially relieved tramway congestion in King William St., as western suburban traffic was directed along Currie St.) Commenced March 1924. completed Aug. 1925. Opened Dec 22, 1925. (See Register Dec. 22, 1925).
