Summary

The ketch 'Black Albatross' dragging anchor and sinking during a gale at Port Victoria. A researcher has provided the following information: 'This is not the 'Black Albatross' but is the ketch 'John Lewis' which dragged ashore north of the Port Victoria jetty on 27 March 1932. The three mast schooner 'Waimana' (in the background) towed the 'John Lewis' into deeper water. The 'Albatross was wrecked on Eclipse Rock to the southwest of the Port Victoria jetty on 12 March 1913.'
