Summary

Near Mildura: taken from punt, believed to be the Abbots ford punt at Curlwaa, NSW, which crossed the river Merbein (Victorian side) to Corrowa (NSW side). The PS William Davies is towing a barge and the steamer tied to the bank is likely to be the 'Invincible'.

Historical information

The punt crossed the Murray River from Curlwaa to the Yelta (Merbein) area in Victoria. The spot was referred to as "Abbots' ford" as it was a low point in the river before the weirs permanently raised the water level in the river. The punt was replaced by Abbotsford bridge.
