Historical information

S.V. Pommern was a four masted barque built of steel in Glasgow. It was laid up in Valparaiso during WW1 and sold to Gustaf Erikson, a ship owner from Maarianhamina, Finland, in 1923. It was put on the Australia Europe wheat trade route. It was in active service up to 1953 at which time it was presented by the Erikson family to the city of Maarianhamina (Mariehamn), Finland and became a museum exhibit. S. V. Pommern docked in Melbourne on 25/11/1925.The crew would have been mostly Swedish speaking Finns from Western Finland, and some from Eastern Finland (Karelia).
