Summary

Crowds gather to watch work to refloat the survey frigate H.M.A.S. Barcoo (F375) ashore near Glenelg, South Australia. Barcoo was swept ashore during a storm which struck Adelaide in the early hours of Sunday 11 April 1948. 80,000 spectators were reported to have flocked to the beach during the weekend of the 17th and 18th of April. After several failed attempts Barcoo was refloated on 20 April 1948.
