Summary

Adelaide from the G.P.O., looking south east . Right side of Mercantile Chambers [with W.R.Cave sign] is 59 yards south of Flinders Street. The Victoria Building, corner Flinders St. & Victoria Square, was bought from the estate of the late T.C.Bray by S.A.Govt. in financial year 1908-9. See L.T.O. Records and S.A. Parliamentary Paper 1911-12, no. 29, page 82, entry 'Adelaide, Victoria Building'. Various government departments moved into Victoria Building over the next few years, and in 1910 it was used by the Department of Agriculture. See B 15680, taken in October 1964 showing the demolition of these buildings, in preparation for the construction of the Reserve Bank Building on the corner, and the State Administration Centre.
