Summary

[On front of photograph] 'Cape Dombey, Robe.' [General description] Cape Dombey, with the Obelisk, showing the rocky coastline that was so dangerous for shipping. Built in 1852, this shipping marker stands 40 ft high and 100 feet above sea level. It was used to navigate the entrance to Guichen Bay and to store rocket lifesaving equipment. It also assisted passing ships with navigation, as Its alternate red and white bands can be seen up to 20 kilometres out at sea.
