Summary

Cape Northumberland Lighthouse. It was completed, and the kerosene light first lit, on 1st May 1882. It was attended by lightkeepers until 1980 when the light was converted to automatic operation. It was built to replace an earlier [1859] lighthouse, which was only in commisson for 23 years, because it was too close to the cliff edge and was being undermined by the effects of wind and rain.
