General notes

On the left of this building were WWII air raid shelters (at the time being used for meeting rooms) and public toilets on the right. The station was connected by a direct line to the ambulance communications in Hindmarsh, circa 1960's. Garage just accommodated 2 ambulances. Working back from the front there was the garage, followed by an office, sleeping accommodation, kitchen and at the rear a meeting room/hall. Ambulance service from there came "officially" under St John in January 1952. For more details see p 244 "South Australians and St John Ambulance" by Ian Howie-Willis.
