General notes

A researcher believes the B 18659/1-16 group of photographs were most likely taken by Professor Walter Howchin who visited the Hancock property in August 1909. See article on page 42 of the Chronicle dated Saturday 28 August 1909, and Saturday 17 March 1900, page 31. An advertisement for the sale of the property on page 20 of the Advertiser dated 22 April 1914 states that the dam was stocked with Loch Leven and Rainbow Trout, and in another article in the Chronicle, Saturday 17 March 1900, page 31 'sufficient water for all purposes throughout the year. The water is laid on to the house and garden by means of pipes, the latter being irrigated by sprinklers'.

Historical information

John Charles Hancock was a fruitgrower at Heywood farm near Mount Compass from 1894 to about 1914 in partnership with his brother Charles Stephen Hancock.
