Summary

Portrait of A.J. Thomas, an assistant surveyor on the Northern Territory Surveying Expedition. A researcher has suggested that this is Joseph Middlemore Thomas, Surveyor 2nd Class, with the party December 1868 to November 1869. He had a long career with the Lands Titles Office until retirement 1904.

General notes

One of 33 photographic portraits making up a composite of the officers of the South Australian Northern Territory Surveying Expedition, with space for all members on the expedition. Seven of the individual portraits are missing: no.18 (Accountant Lambell); no.19 (Draughtsman Hardy); no.23 (Cadet Greene); no.28 (Cadet Beetson); no.29 (Cadet Robert); no.31 (Cadet Dye); and no.33 (Young Holland). To see the entire composite do a number search on B 16791.
