Summary

An early South Eastern motor buggy at Katnook on 9 October 1904. The persons in the photo (left to right) are Campbell Laird, his wife Christina, her nephew Wally Dawson and her father Andrew McIntyre. Campbell was a mechanical & electrical engineer. He built the steam powered engine and had the body manufactured by a carriage builder. His son believed the vehicle was the first in Ballarat and apparently it startled the horses. Campbell's father, John Laird, managed a sheep station where Katnook Wines now operate. Later the engine was used in a boat sailed on Lake Wendourie Ballarat. (information supplied by a researcher).
