Summary

W. Holden, staff member on Register newspaper. The Register was originally known as the South Australian Gazette and Colonial Register and later the South Australian Register was South Australia's first newspaper. It was first published in London in June 1936 and moved to Adelaide in 1837. He was born in Chichester and emigrated with his family to South Australia in 1838. He started his career with the Register in 1851 as one of three journalists. When the other two left Adelaide for the Victorian Goldfields he became a valuable, hard working and conscientious staff member. He compiled the puzzle page for the Observer. His writing was clear and sharp.
