Summary

Sir Josiah Symon Library in the Public Library of South Australia. When Symon arrived in South Australia he brought two boxes of books. The library at his Upper Sturt estate, Manoah grew to be one of the best in the country. It consisted of ten thousand volumes, a quarter of which were legal books. He bequeathed his legal books to the University of Adelaide and the remainder, especially rich in English literature, to the Public Library of South Australia where it is retained as a separate collection. He is remembered as a barrister, benefactor, federationist, Member of the Lower and Upper Houses, Oppostion Leader and Shakepearean scholar
