Summary

[General description] Salisbury Institute is a rectangular, solid stone building with an interesting classic facade. It was designed to be the main hall of the Institute, later to undergo extensions which were duly done in 1901 and 1928. This building, opened in 1884 was an important social centre for local people, providing a library and reading room. The land was donated by William Kelly of One Tree Hill and the architect was Frederick Dancker who also designed the Macclesfield Institute.
